Dear Taylor Swift,
Well, I was reminiscing just the other day and ended up writing this little poem. It’s nothing special but I thought I would share it.
Dear Taylor Swift,
When the 2000s were new
And the friends were few
And the melodies were true
I found you
When the days were long
And the years were fond
And the setting childhood sun illuminated right and wrong
I sang along to your songs
When the bedrooms were painted with youth
In shades of innocence and a purple hue
Memories tucked away, binder pages on display
Life’s mess scattered on the floor
I learned the chords, I wrote my truth
Not to be a singer, but because I learned from you
When the rooms were dark
And the hours were late
And my cheeks were stained with tears
I endured the flurry of my fears
Because your voice was near
When the cities were new
And apartments worn through
And identity under review
You welcomed me too
When the ‘good girl’ started to shatter
And decisions began to matter
And “friends forever” seemed to unravel
Lost in that ephemeral sea
You said, “If you’re anything like me”
When the heartbreaks mended
And the futures cemented
And societies expectations immured
And my sense of self deterred
“You are what you love” is what I whispered
When the sky was gray
And the air was cold
And I drove to the cliffs
Just to admire the shore
Your melodies were my score
When life kept on moving
And I waved to those passing by
And the world took notice of the glimmer in your eye
I smiled reminiscently at all the years you were by my side
Before your “Midnights” were everyone’s
Your music was just mine
To the girl who said she would never change
But never stay the same
Thank you, for always paving the way
And being the soundtrack of all my days
